Devotionals are short readings of personal testimonies or teachings with a Bible verse that goes along with it. They sometimes give a prayer, too. Devotionals are encouraging and are a great way to help you start or end your day with the Lord. They give you a positive focus and mindset.
Devotionals are also a great way to get you started into a deeper and closer relationship with the Lord. However, we do not want this to be the only action we take. It is a great start, but we want and need to be able to actually dive deeper into His word with Bible reading and studies.
You can add daily devotionals to your daily Bible reading and studies. It is a great refresher and starting point to your daily Bible reading and quiet time that you will spend with the Lord.
Devotionals and Bible Study are not the same…
The difference between devotionals and Bible studies is that devotionals are written by Christians about our experiences, by you and me alike. Reading and studying the Bible is more important and crucial because you are reading the words of Jesus and those written by His Holy Spirit!
You read the words of other Christians in devotionals, but when you read the Bible, the Word of God, you read about Him and it reads you, too!
We have to be careful what we read and whose work we read, as there are so many writers in the world, we want to make sure that they are truly Biblically and Christian based.
I am no Biblical scholar or above any other writer, blogger or Christian. I try to always make sure what I say and share is lined up with the Word of God. I don’t want the thought of leading others astray and away from the Lord on my conscience.
The “devotionals” that I share with you all on my personal blog, livelearngrowinfaith.com, are from my personal life experiences and journey. I pray that they encourage you and motivate you to dig deeper into knowing Jesus and God’s word for yourself. That your faith will be built to trust in Him and know that He will truly never leave you, nor forsake you (Deut. 31:6)!
