Faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen (Heb. 11:1). It is putting your full trust and confidence in someone or something. We exercise our faith when we hope or believe for something to come to pass that we have not yet seen. We expect it to come forth because we have substance or assurance in God that it will.
Faith is an essential part of our daily Christian walk. We must rely on God and keep our trust and faith in Him at all times, even when it seems impossible. The Bible tells us that we only need faith the size of a mustard seed (Matt. 17:20). If we give Him just a little to work with, He will use it to do great and mighty things on our behalf.
We do, however, have to do our part. James 2:26 tells us that our faith without works is dead. I feel like this is saying that if we have faith and we don’t back it up with our lives reflecting the goodness of the Lord and being renewed and transformed from the inside out, we are just wishful thinking. We have to obey Him, serve Him, and do as He has called us to do. God is a good God, but it’s not a give, take relationship, it’s a give, give relationship.
We continuously build our faith by staying in His word (the Bible) and in constant communication with Him (prayer). The more we seek Him, the more we know Him, the more we trust Him, the more we love Him. Our faith builds deeper and deeper in Him and it eventually becomes our nature to just rest in Him at all times and expect nothing but good from Him.
A Prayer For Faith
Jesus, thank You for loving me. Thank You for taking what little faith I have and using it for something bigger than what I can see or imagine. I am in need of You today. Deepen my faith to trust in You and that You are who You say You are and that You will do what You said You would do. Help me to live and walk out a faith filled life. Help me to better obey You, serve You, and represent You. Help me to be a giver to You and not always in expectancy of only what You can give me. Draw me closer to You, Your Word, Your heart, and Your presence. Jesus I need You today and everyday. Thank Your for never leaving me, nor forsaking me and for being the Author and Finisher of my faith. In Jesus name, Amen.
I pray that your faith has been built today and that this simple prayer leads you into a deeper understanding and confidence in Jesus. He is all you need and you are all He wants!
